Monika Dabrowska-Picewicz: Primitive Textures and Civilised Forms

Dabrowska-Picewicz artistic language is strongly defined and recognised. Characteristic massive forms inspired by organic and zoomorphic shapes like stones, or animals make Artist’s works real showstoppers. The contrast between the coarse primitive textures and civilised forms sets up an elusive tension.

“What I love about ceramic art is that it combines all the techniques together: sculpting, painting and drawing. At the same time it’s also possible to create a useful object.”

The Sculptural Bowls

We proudly present at Frederika Galerie a selection of one-of-the-kind objects from the Artist, exclusively created for the gallery. The Sculptural Bowls is a collection of porcelain hand built massive oval forms blurring the lines between art and function. All works from this collection are currently sold out. The next delivery is expected Feb 2023.

三島焼 The Mishima

A collection of stoneware zoomorphic pitchers. The traditional Japanese 三島焼 Mishima originally refers to pottery characterised by being roughly made and often uneven, thus epitomising the Japanese aesthetic of wabi-sabi. The Artist transponded it into modern ceramics language by inlaying slip, underglaze with contrasting clay, creating beautiful nature’s inspired patterns on the surface.
